Residual Gestures
2025

Project StatementResidual Gestures explores process, labour, and sculpture, highlighting process over outcome. Using malleable substances such as fabric, film, and projection, April emphasises material transformation and the physical act of artmaking. Rooted in her artistic practice, engaging materials through touch and experimentation, the work embraces movement and unpredictability, resisting the static perfection of the art object. The multimedia collage of projected imagery onto fabric highlights artmaking as a fluid process, embracing movement and transformation. Critiquing industrial manufacturing’s detachment from human touch, Residual Gestures invites viewers to reconsider imperfection, materiality, and creation as an ongoing, evolving act.
